Pradosham means the removal of sins and occurs monthly during the 13th phase of the Moon (waxing or waning) to the Lord of Sin Removal, Siva. The planet Saturn is often considered the Lord of Karma whose power can transform kings to a pauper and visa versa. Saturn is also an evolving form of Lord Siva himself. Pradosham days which occur on Saturday, are considered the most powerful karma removing day of all pradoshams.
In 2008 there are only 3 Sani (Saturn) Pradosham days to take advantage of, and 2 of these occur in January. Be sure not to miss this opportunity at the start of the New Year to erase the trials of 2007 and begin anew.
January 14th (the 15th in India) marks the dawn of time in heaven. This signifies the return of light to the earth plane after 6 months of darkness. On this day the Sun moves into Capricorn. This is the most auspicious time to start a new business, relationship or any other activity. Things done during this time will have divine support.
The upcoming Full Moon on January 21st will be the Thai Full Moon, called Thai Poosam. There is a very special spiritual significance to this Full Moon as the star Pushya (Poosam) is considered by many to be the most auspicious star for spiritual development. Pushya means “nuture” and is in the sign Cancer owned by the Moon, the Mother. The deity associated with Pushya is also Brihaspati, the Guru or teacher and so it has a property of enlightening spiritual growth. It gains even further significance as February 1st happens to be Thursday (the day ruled by Guru).
