Sri Rama Navami signifies Sri Rama’s Birthday and this year falls on March 24, the last day of Vasantha Navaratri. Sri Rama is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is known for his compassion towards human beings. ‘Ra-Ma’ is an unparalleled mantra which attracts wealth and provides you protection from evil. Even the mighty Lord Shiva once told his wife Parvathi that the easiest way to attain the highest in spiritual and material domains is by praying to Lord Rama and chanting his name. Lord Shiva went to the extent of saying that this is equivalent to even chanting the sacred Vishnu Sahasranama.

Vasantha Navaratri: The Time for Spiritual Spring Cleaning
Spring represents rebirth, life, vitality, renewal, growth and purity. We throw open our windows of our homes to blow out the stale airs of winter to allow the fresh air of spring to blow out the cobwebs, invite new abundance and levity in, and create new opportunities. Similarly, this is the time for spiritual spring cleaning. Embrace Vasantha Navaratri, also called Spring Navaratri, and rejuvenate your life.

‘Navaratri’ or the Nine Nights of the Goddess refers to a series of nine nights celebrated 4 times a year, when creative energy or Goddess energy is at its peak. Prayers offered during these nine nights will aid in material and spiritual progress. Though it occurs 4 times a year, only two of them are celebrated with pomp and gaiety in India. Of these, the ‘Sharada Navaratri’ in the fall and the ‘Vasantha Navaratri’ in the spring, are considered vital.

Maha Shivaratri is considered the most auspicious time to please Lord Shiva to gain his blessings. What is the simplest way of appeasing Lord Shiva? Offer him Bilva leaves.

The most terrible karma is destroyed when a Bilva leaf is offered to Lord Shiva. The unbelievable merits one receives on offering a single Bilva leaf to Lord Shiva are described in the 9 verses of the sacred hymn known as Bilvashtakam.

Just like Tulsi plant is sacred to Lord Krishna and Durva grass is sacred to Lord Ganesha, Bilva tree is sacred to Lord Shiva. Since the Bilva leaf has such significance in the worship of Lord Shiva, it is common to find Bilva trees cultivated in the vicinity of Shiva temples.

Various phases of the Moon control our physical, psychological as well as material fortune. This is one of the greatest findings of the ancient Vedic seers of India. The 13th Moon in every month, beginning roughly 2 hours before the sunset, everyone has an opportunity to dissolve their bad karma through the Grace of Shiva. Similarly, the night of the monthly 14th waning Moon is called Shivaratri, the Night of Shiva. This is also an auspicious time to receive Shiva’s Blessing.

Every 13th Moon, called Pradosham, is the time to dissolve bad karma through the Grace of Shiva. This is the general rule. Nevertheless there are some very special 13th Moon phases, especially when the 13th Moon coincides with Saturday. Any 13th Moon Phase on a Saturday is called “Maha Pradosham” or “Sani Pradosham” as Saturday is ruled by Saturn (Sani), a Lord of Karma. This Maha Sani Pradosham is a great time to receive Lord Shiva’s Blessing to remove strong karma.

On March 7th, the Moon will be traveling through the sign Scorpio, its sign of debilitation. Likewise Mars, who is the Ruler of Scorpio, will also be in debilitation in the sign of Cancer, the Ruler of the Moon.

In Vedic Astrology, this forms a yoga called Neecha Banga Raja Yoga (the cancellation of debilitation). This yoga is created when on March 7th both these planets interchange their signs. It is like you trading houses with your landlord; he lives in your house, and you live in his house for a while. The two planets provide a level of support to each other. (Mars is the landlord of Scorpio, Moon is the landlord of Cancer: Mars moves into the Moon’s house Cancer, and Moon moves into Mars’ house Scorpio). What makes this an even more rare occurrence is that this occurs during the 8th Moon Phase when the Moon transits the 8th sign of the Natural Zodiac. Eight is a powerful number for transformation and change.
